ALTOONA, Pa. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Sheetz convenience stores have announced major donations to help healthcare workers and those experiencing food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Five tons of food is being donating to hospitals in every state that Sheetz is located in.
The donation includes snacks and drinks being given directly to hospitals as they “work around the clock to deliver life-saving care to those fighting COVID-19.”
The donation will go directly to the COVID-19 fund and will be used to provide protective care and other items to health care workers and medical facilities across the country.
In addition, Sheetz is also going to match up to $50,000 more to Direct Relief through an esports charity tournament on Friday.
The Pittsburgh Knights esports team and GFuel will hold a tournament of the new game “Valorant”.
The stream begins at 1:30 p.m. on April 24 and donations can be made through the Sheetz Live channel on Twitch.
Sheetz customers also have the opportunity to donate their loyalty point to support Feeding America.
For every 200 points a person donates through the Sheetz app, $1 will be donated to Feeding American and will match donations up to $100,000.
Donations will be received through June 30, 2020.
