Students Hold Loud But Peaceful Protest For Antwon Rose Downtown

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - After marching through Downtown Pittsburgh Monday afternoon, stopping at various intersections, hundreds of student protesters made their way to the Allegheny County Jail before ending on the Boulevard of the Allies.

The protesters called for change after Michael Rosfeld the former East Pittsburgh Police Officer was found not guilty in the shooting death of Antwon Rose. The protesters were made up of middle school, high school and college students.

The loud but peaceful protest lasted about three hours and called for 10 demands, with the first one being justice for Rose.

Other demands include the firing of the head of the Pittsburgh fraternal order of police, to vote district attorney Stephen Zappala out of office and they are also endorsing a Allegheny County citizens police review board.

The protests started on Grant Street in front of the County-Courthouse shortly after 11:30 a.m. The students carried umbrellas and signs demanding justice for Antwon Rose.

The protest was organized on social media asking students to walk out of class and meet at the courthouse. The protesters then moved down Grant Street to Liberty Avenue blocking the intersection.

The demonstration causes traffic delays for motorists’ downtown until the protesters dissipated at 2:30 p.m.

Police said no one was arrested.

Antwon Rose's mother Michelle Kenney urged Woodland Hills students not to walk out of school Monday morning.

She spoke at the high school her son graduated from shortly before he was fatally shot by former East Pittsburgh Police Officer Michael Rosfeld.
