PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA - Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto is reacting to the arrest of a Syrian refugee, accused of plotting to bomb a North Side church. KDKA Radio's Joe DeStio joins us with details live:
21-year-old Mustafa Mousab Alowemer had been living in North View Heights where many recent immigrants to the city have made homes.
Pittsburgh mayor Bill Peduto said Alowemer arrest on charges he plotted to blowup Legacy International Worship center on the North Side doesn't lessen his resolve to make Pittsburgh friendly to refugees.
"Doesn't make it reconsider it," said Peduto. "This country was built by immigrants and refugees. This individual went through the process. Can I guarantee that tomorrow, there won't be a homicide in this city? No, I can't but I can do everything that I can in order to try to protect people."
Alowemer r has a court hearing scheduled for Friday.
