PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) — It took crews hours to put out a three-alarm fire in the Strip District Monday morning.
Flames broke out in a warehouse in the 1600 block of Smallman Street around 4:30 a.m. and the fire was contained around 7 a.m.
Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich says the fire was hazardous because the building was under construction.
"Floors were missing," said Hissrich. "There's different various chemical cylinders throughout the building and of course we had concerns with electricity and gas."
The building is part of the produce terminal redevelopment project.
No injuries reported. The cause has not been determined.
