PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - While Pittsburgh prepares for COVID-19, the flu is still affecting the area.
Three influenza deaths were reported last week in Allegheny County.
The Allegheny County Health Department says the people were in their early 70s or early 60s and all had underlying medical conditions.
Including the fatalities announced today the seasonal total in Allegheny County is 15.
12,456 total people have contracted the flu in Allegheny County this season.
Pennsylvania has seen a total of 115,469 flu cases with a total of 83 fatalities.
Allegheny Health Network Dr Brian Lamb says while the symptoms are the same, it's hard to compare flu and coronavirus death rates
"There are probably millions of people who had minor symptoms because it hit during flu season that were never tested for coronavirus," said Dr. Lamb.
Officials say the best way to fight the flu is to get a flu shot as well as washing your hands thoroughly.
The number of new flu cases here has held steady at about 800 a week for the past six weeks.
