PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - AAA wants you to get your cars ready for the deep freeze so that you aren’t left out in the cold.
AAA’s Jim Garrity tells KDKA Radio’s Lynne Hayes-Freeland Motorists can prepare for the frigid weather by getting their batteries tested before Tuesday night’s deep freeze
“If you have a battery that’s three years or older especially, that’s when you want to get it tested. Any of the inconvenience today of actually getting your battery tested will probably be outweighed by the inconvenience of running way late to work tomorrow because the vehicle won’t turn over at all,” said Garrity.
Garrity adds that flat tires are almost as common as dead batteries in cold weather.
“Stop by the gas station today, make sure you have enough (air) in there, maybe even put a couple extra pounds. (Temperatures are) going to be going down overnight ,so chances are you’re going to have less air in your tires.
He also recommends having the gas tank at least half full and parking vehicles in a garage overnight if possible.
