PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The two sisters beaten outside a North Side gas station last Friday in a dispute over 17 dollars spoke to reporters with their attorney Friday.

25-year-old Jamila Regan says she was fearful for her life and the life of her older sister Ashia Regan during the attack.

“I’m not sure one word best describes the feeling of hurt, anger and fear all at once,” said Jamila.

“We’re hard-working, tax paying Americans, as costumers we deserve to be treated with respect,” said Ashia. “We are not thugs, we are not animals, we are human beings.”

Both sisters say they’re thankful for community support.

Their attorney Todd Hollis presented reporters court records that show one of the defendants, Scott Hill, has been charged with simple assault, trespassing and theft.

Another defendant, Bill Singh, pleading guilty to a firearms charge.

Two of the defendants told reporters Thursday they are not racists and they love their community.

State Representatives Jake Wheatley and Ed Gainey called on District Attorney Stephen Zappala to reconsider and bring aggravated, not simple assault charges against the three men accused of attacking the sisters.
