Unemployment Numbers Improving In Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pennsylvania Department of Labor has released its unemployment report for June and there is some sign of hope.

The unemployment rate was down nearly half a percent, at 13 percent.

PA has recovered nearly 40 percent of the total non-farm jobs lost in March and April.

Total non-farm jobs were up 231,500 over the month. That is the largest single-month increase on record.

The PA Department of Labor and Industry says that Jobs were on the rise in 8 of the 11 industry “supersectors” with the largest gain in the leisure and hospitality industry which added 76,100 jobs from May.

Unemployment is still up 8.7 percent compared to June of last year.

The national rate fell 2.2 percent from May’s level to 11.1 percent.
