PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – A woman was stabbed Downtown Friday afternoon.

This happened around 12:30 p.m. at Triangle Park near the Fairmont Hotel.

A suspect is in custody and was transported to the Allegheny County Jail.

Point Park University Student Body President Jake Berlin tells KDKA Radio’s Lynne Hayes-Freeland he witnessed the stabbing.

“There was a man arguing with a woman and I saw that he had pulled out a knife and had stabbed her as they continued to argue and what surprised me as they both stood there, still continuing their disagreement and yelling at each other while everyone else is screaming and calling the police, the woman continued to stand in place and bleed on the ground and the man continued to stand there with his knife,” said Berlin

“It wasn’t until the cops finally showed up that he started to run but they eventually got him and put her in an ambulance as well.”

Police say the woman is in stable condition at a local hospital.

It is the third stabbing downtown during daylight hours recently and Berlin says he is concerned.

Berlin says the Point Park campus notification system did not alert students.

“Because this wasn’t technically taking place within the grounds of our ‘campus’, we weren’t sent an alert about it even though freshmen students are here for orientation, they’re walking around Market Square and many of them were in the area when this happened,” said Berlin. “I think that any incident downtown, especially the increase of violence recently needs to be disseminated to all of the stake-holders in the area, especially new students.”
