Melinda Roeder is thrilled to be back in her hometown of Pittsburgh after spending more than 15 years moving around the country covering news stories from live trucks in South Dakota, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, and Georgia. Before moving back to PA in 2016, she was a reporter for WGCL-TV in Atlanta, where she learned to tolerate the Braves, but continued to root for the Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers. She has earned several awards for her work in both TV and radio, including 13 regional Emmy© awards, 7 Edward R. Murrow awards, and dozens of honors from the Associated Press. She has covered several major events including the inaugurations of President Obama and President George W. Bush, the plane crash of Comair Flight 5191, the execution of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, the death and legacy of Steelers’ Dan Rooney, and three Super Bowls. Melinda continues to serve as a national Public Relations Committee chair for NATAS (National Academy of Television News and Science). She is also a member of the NATAS Scholarship committee and works as an adjunct professor at Waynesburg University. Melinda’s interest in news, sports, and politics began early. She fondly remembers listening to KDKA radio as a kid – mostly to learn about school closings in winter – but also to find out more about her community. She loves telling stories about inspiring people and all the things that make Pittsburghers proud. When she’s not chasing a news tip or mentoring students, Melinda enjoys spending time with her family and baking. She’s even won a couple Blue Ribbons for her pies, but refuses to share her crust recipe!
