Larry & Marty's Hometown Heroes honors individuals making a positive impact on our local communities.

On Thursday, October 19th at Rivers Casino we will honor five individuals in the community making a difference. These are people who have significantly influenced the region in their field of service or who have served the community in a heroic manner.

KDKA NewsRadio thanks all of the wonderful nominations received for this year's event. Below are the five individuals, alongside an overview of their local impact, that will be honored this year:

Joanne Cecchi

*Founder of "Project Seed," which has been a highly successful and impactful food distribution backpack program. Project Seed (Something to Eat Every Day) provides a bag of food every Friday during the school year for students to take home.

Paul Anthony

*Paul Anthony has been a hero in uniform as a police officer for our local community. Paul has worked closely with canines, helping them become renowned rescue animals and has also provided rescue dogs a safe and loving home.

Michael Manna

*Founder of the Northside Athletic Club which provides local youth a safe and welcoming space that instills values in them and provides fitness activities like the opportunity on how to learn to box.

Brenda Tate

*Brenda Tate has committed her entire life on being a great neighbor - and an even better person. In her local community she has set up a plethora of local and engaging events, volunteering opportunities, awareness projects, and other philanthropic efforts.

Rhaeann Shepler

*Penn-Trafford School District nurse, Rhaeann Shepler, sprang into action after she witnessed one of her coworkers starting to enter sudden cardiac arrest. Rhaeann had noticed they stopped breathing so she started to perform CPR, and because of this, paramedics arrived in time and saved her coworker and unborn child's life.
