Of the 750 unaccompanied migrant children being housed at the San Diego Convention Center, about 10% or 70, so far, have tested positive for COVID-19, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says.

According to HHS, none of the cases are serious, and all are asymptomatic.

It was announced on March 22 that the convention center would be used as a facility for migrant children. The first group arrived in San Diego Saturday after three charter flights from Texas. Most of the kids come from Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador, and are being housed in San Diego to alleviate overcrowded Border Patrol facilities in Texas.

The convention center is holding unaccompanied migrant children under the age of 18, and will only be in use for the next 90 days, with each child staying an average of 30 to 35 days. The minors are not allowed to leave the facility until they are reunited with family or sponsors and will be given food, medical attention, beds, and showers.

HHS says the children were tested for COVID-19 before arriving in San Diego and will be tested every three days while staying at the convention center.
