AAA urges against driving hungover this New Years

PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) As 2020 comes to a close, many people will celebrate with a few drinks to ring in the new year.

AAA is reminding people not only to not get behind the wheel while under the influence, but to also not drive hungover the next day.

"Driving hungover can be just as dangerous as driving after having a few drinks," said Terri Rae Anthony, safety advisor, AAA East Central. "After a night of drinking, many people will wake up with alcohol still in their blood, or they will wake up tired and disoriented."

According to the AAA DUI Justice Link, it can take between 75-90 minutes, or even longer, for the body to eliminate the alcohol in a standard drink.

The 75-90 minutes is longer than most people think.

Hangover symptoms can last for 24 hours, or longer.

AAA suggests that if you are feeling any of the following symptoms, to not get behind the wheel.

Fatigue and weaknessHeadaches and muscle achesNausea and stomach painPoor or decreased sleepDehydrationVertigoSensitivity to light and soundAnxietyIrritabilityIncreased blood pressure
