PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) – Attorney General Josh Shaprio put a stop to a Georgia-based company saying their mattress disposal is 'eco-friendly' to Pennsylvania costumers.
According to a press released, Load-Up Technologies LLC, which does business as Mattress Disposal Plus, marketed that they disposed of mattresses in a "green" and "eco-friendly" manner, along with recycling and donating mattresses.
An investigation by the Office of Attorney General revealed the mattresses were being disposed into a landfill.
"This company not only undermined other Pennsylvania businesses that are truly environmentally conscious, but tried to soften the blow with concerned consumers through deceptive marketing practices," said Shapiro. "Pennsylvanians can rest easy knowing that I won't let any business, big or small, deceive and mislead Pennsylvanians."
Mattress Disposal Plus will no longer advertise to Pennsylvanians that the will disposal of mattress in an "eco-friendly," "green" manner, or that they will recycle or donate the mattresses.
The company will also pay civil penalties, costs to the state, and a $3,000 donation to a nonprofit organization that promotes and facilitates mattress recycling and donation in Pennsylvania.
