HARRISBURG Pa (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) As the fight the stop the spread of coronavirus rages on, Gov. Tom Wolf has vetoed as bill that would have allowed restaurants and other businesses to return to full capacity.
The bill, titled HB 2513, passed the State House of Representatives on Sept. 23 and allowed businesses like restaurants, bars, clubs, and banquet halls to return to full capacity at their own discretion.
In Wolf's veto, he stated that the bill would endanger public health and the safety of everyone.
HB 2513 also would have opened up bar seating and eliminated the requirement for a meal to be purchased for an alcoholic beverage.
Wolf stated that the elimination of those rules would increase the likelihood of COVID-19 outbreaks.
While the bill would allow restaurants to be open to full capacity, social distancing and barriers would still be required.
With the bill being vetoed, it will be sent back to the state legislature, where it will need a two-third majority vote to override.
