About a dozen library books are under review in the Pine-Richland School District following requests from community members.
Several people, like Raina Santiago, spoke at Monday's board meeting, expressing concern some books are sexually inappropriate.
“How can we agree that certain materials harmful to our children and therefore develop policies to prevent our children from accessing online, yet these same materials are allowed in our school library,” said Santiago.
Cindy Vogel believes certain books in district libraries are inappropriate for high school and middle school students.
“I’m concerned about the future and I want to express to you that it’s really critically important that each of us examine the things that our children are reading,” said Vogel.
School board president Greg DiTullio says there's a policy that allows parents to request a review of materials in the library. In the last week they've received requests for about a dozen books.
They're also considering a policy that would notify parents when their child checks out a book under review.
