Students at 17 Pittsburgh Public Schools are now learning online due COVID-19 pandemic-related staffing shortages.
Eight schools are closed Tuesday, and nine others are closed for the rest of the week. As for going back to classrooms, the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers has requested a meeting with the district.
"We have not met with them yet. I'm not saying I know their protocols yet, but we're going to meet because we want to know the details of how they figure it out," said Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers' President Nina Visgitis-Esposito in an interview with KDKA-TV.
The eight schools closed Tuesday are Carrick High School, Greenfield, Liberty, South Hills, Whittier, Obama, Sterrett and Westinghouse.
As for the nine who will be closed the rest of the week, that list includes Allegheny, Classical Academy, Langley, Lincoln, Montessori, Perry High School, Phillips, Morrow and Weil.
Grab-and-Go meal service is available for students from 9 a.m. until Noon at the schools.
