AG Stephen Zappala blasts city’s handling of nuisance bars

Pittsburgh's Headlines: November 3, 2026

City councilman Bob Charland says it’s a shame it took so long to close Capo’s following a weekend stabbing.

Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala is weighing in on Charland’s criticism, after sending an open letter to Mayor Corey O’Connor Monday blasting the city’s handling of nuisance bars.

Zappala spoke with KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin.

“If somebody wants some action taken without evidence, knock yourself out man, my office is about evidence, it’s about facts and we have to, independently come to a conclusion, you know you’re taking somebody’s livelihood away, all the people that are innocent people down there, that work for that place, you’re putting them out of work,” said Zappala.

Zappala also criticized city officials for not giving prosecutors “an explanation as to why so many businesses are shuttering along that section of (East) Carson Street.”
