Allegheny County adds 609 new COVID-19 cases Thursday

There are 609 new COVID-19 cases in Allegheny County according to information from the Health Department.

One new death was also reported. Of the new cases, 492 are confirmed.

On Wednesday, 620 new cases were reported over a 24 hour period.

Due to the recent increase in the number of cases, the Director of the Allegheny County Health Department, Dr. Debra Bogen, issued a stay-at-home advisory on Wednesday afternoon. She also issued a stop-social-gatherings advisory, asking residents to stay home for Thanksgiving and cancel any holiday plans that includes members of other households.

Bogen says residents should only leave their homes if they have to do so. "I'm advising all residents of Allegheny County to stay home, only leaving to go to work or school or for essential needs like medical care, getting their medications, groceries or food, and not to have guests at their home unless they're essential workers like child care or home health aids," she said.

Earlier in the week, Pennsylvania's Secretary of Health announced new virus mitigation efforts which included strengthening the state's face mask order. It now requires the wearing of a mask any time residents leave their homes, regardless of whether or not they're indoors or outdoors.

Since March, there have been 22,043 cases in the county.
