Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald says as time goes on, he's seeing the reluctance of people to get the vaccine continuing to drop.
He says that if this trend continues, he believes the experts predictions will be proven wrong.
"A lot of them are talking to their neighbors, you know - oh, I got my vaccine last week, yeah, everything was fine", he says. "So, these good reports that continue to happen.... I don't think we're going to see 30% of the folks reluctant to get there. I think it's going to be much, much smaller than that".
Starting Friday, March 19, the Allegheny County Health Department is expanding its eligibility requirements for the COVID-19 vaccine. The department is now adding people ages 50-64 who meet the Pennsylvania 1A criteria for the vaccine.
Fitzgerald says you can expect the criteria to frequently change in the weeks to come.
"But that's going to change too", he says. "There's going to be, as we get more vaccine, and we're seeing more out in the marketplace, we're seeing more mass clinics than we had, so the age limitations will drop, the specifications of what you have to have, is going to continue to evolve".
Fitzgerald made the comments during his daily briefing on the Marty Griffin show on News Radio KDKA.
