Allegheny County Health Department not among providers who accidentally gave wrong COVID-19 vaccine doses

The Allegheny County Health Department says they were not one of the vaccine providers the state said accidentally gave first doses which were designated as second doses.

According to Health Director Dr. Debra Bogen, they're working on a plan to make sure everyone who received a first dose from the County Health Department gets a second one.

"Although as suggested by the state, this may mean moving back the second dose by up to a few weeks, but still within the CDC guidance for second doses of between 28 and 42 days," she said.

Alison Beam of the State Health Department says there are about 30,000 to 60,000 Pennsylvanians who will likely have to reschedule their second appointments one to two weeks later.

The County Health Department only oversees the distribution of vaccines sent to them to administer. Dr. Bogen did not know if any other local distributors were involved in the mix-up.
