Allegheny County to continue enforcing COVID-19 restrictions

Allegheny County will continue to enforce Coronavirus mitigation regulations amidst confusing signals from the state legislature, the governor and a federal judge.

Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald says the health department is still enforcing restaurant capacity limits, alcohol restrictions, masks and gathering limits.

"Enforcement by the health department, Dr. Bogan and her team, will continue," he said. "We know from the scientists, not from the politicians, we know what we need to do. We know what we want to do as far as limiting gatherings."

Governor Wolf says he'll veto a House and Senate passed bill that does away with many of his bar and restaurant limits.

The administration is also appealing a federal judge's ruling that crowd limits and business closures are unconstitutional.

On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives failed to get enough votes to override the governor's veto of House bill 2787.

That bill would have given school districts the ability to determine for themselves how many fans can attend high school sporting events.

Wolf released a statement Wednesday following the House failure thanking Democrats for standing by him and said "Pennsylvanians should be thankful as well."
