According to KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin the suspect involved in the active shooter situation in Garfield Wednesday morning into the afternoon had been shot dead.
Griffin says it is currently unknown if 63-year-old William Hardison was shot by police or if it was a self-inflicted wound.
Allegheny County Sheriff’s Officers were delivering an eviction notice when Hardison began to open fire.
“Almost seven hours of hell,” one officer told Marty Griffin.
The shootout and standoff began shortly after 11 a.m. and lasted until just before 5 p.m.
Griffin reports that Hardison was accumulating weapons even though he was not legally able to buy weapons due to criminal history.
He also had minor drug charges and had multiple hearings in housing court.
Taxes were not reportedly paid on the house, which prompted the eviction.
