Pet adoptions surged during the pandemic.
Now, comes a surge in people surrendering their animals.
As people return to work, cats and dogs are being returned to shelters and rescues. But at Animal Fiends in Pittsburgh, Suaz Forsyth says staff work hard to help pet parents solve their problems.
"So if they're surrendering because they don't have time or because their animal's being destructive because no one's home nowadays, we work with them to be able to keep the pet in their home."
They've posted videos online for tips on helping pets acclimate to changes in routine and avoid separation anxiety.
"It's keeping them busy or it's just weening them back," she said.
She says it usually just takes patience and proper training.
