Onion Maiden, one of Pittsburgh’s popular vegan restaurants, will shut the doors at its Allentown location on April 2 for either a brief period of time or permanently.

The restaurant is known for its dishes with names inspired by the world of heavy metal and punk music is known for its Asian/American cuisine.

In a Facebook post, the owner of Onion Maiden said running the day-to-day operations has become too difficult.

“This restaurant has been a labor of love, but the day to day is soul crushing,” the post said in part. “Work/life balance is something both Brooks and myself (Dingo) haven’t been able to steadily achieve and when we did, it was fleeting.”

It is the latest in a series of local restaurant closings.

They include the original Mad Mex location in Oakland, and the Allegheny Township location of King’s Family Restaurant.

Onion Maiden will operate through the end of March.
