With troubling data showing a sharp rise in hate crimes statewide, two Allegheny County state lawmakers are unveiling legislation today that they say would better protect Pennsylvanians targeted by hate.

State Representative Dan Frankel was a guest on the Big K Morning Show:

"The bills would add LGBTQ-plus people to the existing Ethnic Intimidation Act, and people with disabilities, who are not now covered by the act", he says. "It would provide for increased civil and criminal penalties; it would also look to increase training for police and educators".

The action by Frankel and State Senator Jay Costa comes as the trial begins this week against the alleged shooter in the 2018 Tree of Life Synagogue attack, which occurred in Costa and Frankel's districts.
