Arctic air and snow showers will linger week or more

The recent pattern of light snow showers and cold arctic air will continue for the next few days.

AccuWeather meteorologist Joe Lundberg says the big snow storm that clipped the Pittsburgh area and dumped more south of the city has stayed in “Atlantic Canada.”

That storm is “generating all of this wind and the cold,” said Lundberg. “It’s not extreme, it’s not record-setting, but it’s just ever-present. It’s not going away so that flow off the lakes is producing a lot of clouds and these flurries and some heavier snow showers.”

Lundberg expects much of the same weather over the next 10 days or so.

Southwestern PA won’t see relief from the cold temperatures and snow until around January 20 or so.

During that time, some storms could roll through, including late Friday into Saturday and another one late next week into the weekend (January 17-18).

After a couple of below average winters, snowfall is up in Western PA so far this year.
