Arrest made in February arson of South Side historic building

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio KDKA) — After a collaborative investigation between Pittsburgh's Fire Investigation Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), an arrest was made Thursday for a February 8 fire that occurred on the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Carson Street.

A few months ago, the South Side fire required four alarms for the blaze that destroyed a commercial and residential building.

The building had been named a historical site but had to be demolished after the extensive damage.

The 25-year-old Christian Ross was arrested on two counts of arson endangering persons and arson endangering property, nine criminal mischief charges, one count causing catastrophe, and one count of arson of a historic structure.

Ross is currently being housed in the Allegheny County Jail on "separate charges."

Department of Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich had this to say about the arson and Ross's arrest: "This arrest and corresponding charges were made possible thanks to the seamless cooperation between our Fire Investigation Unit, the ATF, and the Allegheny County District Attorney's Office. I thank everyone for their hard work in bringing this case to a close."
