Astrobotic's lunar lander burned up on re-entry Thursday afternoon.
The Peregrine was in orbit for 10 days after a fuel leak prevented the mission from proceeding to the moon.
Debris from the spacecraft was expected to come down in the South Pacific Ocean near Australia.
Before it made its way back into the atmosphere, Peregrine snapped a photo of the earth, unaltered.
Astrobotic confirmed Friday afternoon that the lander landed in the South Pacific.
Officials say they learned a lot.
“Peregrine Mission One has concluded. We look to the future and our next mission to the Moon, Griffin Mission One. All of the hard-earned experience from the past 10 days in space along with the preceding years of designing, building and testing Peregrine will directly inform Griffin and our future missions,” Astrobotic said in a statement.
The Griffin mission is expected to take off for the moon later this year.
