Beaver County residents received a text alert last night. Too many people got the message.
The message said Chippewa Police were on the scene of an incident, advising residents them to keep their doors locked and stay inside.
A few minutes later, a second text said the first message was intended for residents of Chippewa where a man was barricaded inside a home.
Director of Emergency Services Eric Brewer chalked it up to human error.
“There was just one box that wasn’t checked allowing it to go out to more people than it needed to. The safety of the public was never an issue throughout this.”
Brewer says 911 staffing was short and dispatchers were multi-tasking at the time.
