On Tuesday, the team for President-elect Joe Biden announced that Pennsylvania Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine has been appointed to serve in the Biden administration.
Dr. Debra Bogen, Director for the Allegheny County Health Department, released a statement saying the appointment is a win for the country.
“Dr. Rachel Levine’s appointment is a loss for Pennsylvania but a true gain for the United States. Throughout the pandemic, she took courageous actions to keep Pennsylvanians safe, knowing they would draw sharp criticism.
"She always kept the big picture in clear focus. Her careful, steady, thoughtful and ‘do the right thing’ leadership is exactly what the country needs in Washington to lead America through this pandemic and to reform and build public health in the years that follow.
“As a newcomer to public health this year, Dr. Levine has been a mentor to me, and I thank her and her team for their support and wisdom during these challenging times. It is been a true honor to work with her and to plan and strategize with her. I am excited for her and for the country.”
