PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – There is a chance Rico Dowdle does return from his toe injury. The running back was limited during practice at the UPMC Rooney facility on the South Side Thursday. The news not as good for a starting cornerback.
It’s the second straight day Dowdle was limited and with Jaylen Warren handling the bulk of the carries, the 28-year-old may only be needed for a couple of handfuls of snaps just to give Warren a breather on Sunday.
There is still hope after an optimistic day on Monday of corner Jamel Dean playing Sunday after leaving the Browns game with an ankle injury. However Dean missed practice for the second straight day.
Receiver Michael Pittman did not practice as head coach Mike McCarthy said before practice that Pittman would miss a couple of weeks.
Defensive back Jalen Ramsey missed practice on Wednesday due to his broken wrist, he was limited on Thursday.
Steelers opened the 21-day window for safety DeShon Elliott to return to play and he went through limited work in his first practice back.
Friday is a walk-through which won’t tell us much, but what the injured players do during practice Saturday should be a better guide.
