UPDATE: Multiple sources say Swan was killed by police during a shootout in Homewood.

Original story:

News Radio KDKA has learned that Allegheny County Police are on the hunt for 28-year-old Aaron Lamont Swan of Duquesne.

Police say he is the suspect in the officer-involved shootout that occurred in Downtown Brackenridge on Monday afternoon, which claimed the life of Brackenridge police chief Justin McIntire and wounded another officer in the leg.

County police say that Swan was also hit by gunfire from police, but he was able to flee the scene after carjacking an individual or individuals of their silver 2014 Subaru Legacy vehicle.

Police said at an impromptu news conference at the scene Monday evening that Swan had been wanted on a probation violation, and was pulled over by state police on Route 28 Sunday night, Jan. 1.

However, Swan fled the traffic stop, and was eventually spotted by Harrison Township police Monday morning.

Brackenridge officers then located Swan Monday afternoon, and that's when the foot pursuit began.

Kearns said while on foot, there were two separate shooting incidents; in the 800 block of Third Street, and on Brackenridge Avenue.

One of the officers, Chief McIntire, was struck in the head and died at the scene. The other officer was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
