A House task force looking into the assassination attempt at the Donald Trump rally, led by U.S. Representative Mike Kelly, starts its work next month.

Multiple investigations of the shooting are underway, including the Secret Service and FBI.

In his first interview since he was chosen to lead the House probe, the Butler County Republican told KDKA Radio's Marty Griffin the bipartisan panel will bring together all sources to produce a clear answer to the questions: What went wrong and why?

“One answer,” said Kelly. “Not people giving what their impression was or their understanding of the day so the task force will be having all these people in.”

Kelly adds he doesn’t want the task force to become a circus.

“Our job in the task force, is to get it down to facts, get it down to what it was that happened in real time and with real information,” said Kelly.

One of the questions Kelly has, why was the former president allowed to go out onto the podium if there was a question about a suspect.

That suspected ended up being 20-year-old Thomas Crooks of Bethel Park who shot Trump in the ear, killed retired firefighter Corey Comperatore and wounded two others.
