Candidate for Pa. governor says joining RGGI would 'lay off thousands of good, blue-collar workers'

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Attorney Jason Richey, a candidate for Pennsylvania governor, has visited about 80% of the counties throughout the commonwealth since he announced his run, sharing his message in regard to economic revival.

The Aliquippa native says joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, or RGGI, something Gov. Tom Wolf supports, is a move that would hurt that revival.

"He is putting a carbon tax on all of our power plants that emit CO2 into the air," Richey said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Wednesday. "It will shut down, by his own study, roughly half of our power plants in Pennsylvania. It will lay off thousands of good, blue-collar workers throughout the commonwealth."

Richey says Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro is not preventing this from happening.

"This is a direct attack on our way of life here in Pennsylvania," said Richey. "Governor Wolf has no authority under the law to enter into a regional compact on behalf of the commonwealth."

All the energy that Pennsylvania used to produce will be made in Ohio and West Virginia, two states that have not signed into the agreement.
