Carnegie man in trouble after throwing chunks of concrete at police during 2020 protest

CARNEGIE (NewsRadio KDKA) — Acting United States Attorney Stephen Kaufman announced Wednesday that a man from Carnegie has been charged with obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder.

The Carnegie resident, 25-year-old Andrew Augustyniak-Duncan, pleaded guilty to the one count in front of United States District Judge Arthur Schwab.

The court was made known that Augustyniak-Duncan "knowingly and willfully" threw pieces of concrete and even a pipe at several Pittsburgh police officers during a protest that occurred on May 30, 2020.

Augustyniak-Duncan's usage of the makeshift projectiles led to the "obstruction, impediment and interference of law enforcement officers engaged in the lawful performance of their official duties."

Sentencing for Augustyniak-Duncan is scheduled for October 13, 2021.

Augustyniak-Duncan had been detained until this point, and it will remain the case until the official start of his sentencing.
