A major investment for the Century III Mall site was unveiled in West Mifflin today.
A $1 million grant will help pay for the continued demolition of the mall that was, at one time, the 3rd largest in the world.
Lt. Gov. Austin Davis says they're reinventing the mall once again transforming an eyesore to a sustainable economic generator.
“I’m proud the state has invested a million dollars in funding to keep this project moving forward This one-million-dollar grant will help retain five local construction jobs and create 150 new ones in future mixed-use development,” said Davis.
Davis says the redevelopment will create jobs, promote economic growth, and supporting local communities in Western Pennsylvania.
State Senator-elect Nick Pisciottanto, who helped secure the money says he was born and raised in West Mifflin and wants his children to have the same kind of memories at the location hat he did inside Century III Mall.
Officials also warn that the site remains active as demolition continues.
As for the future, the former Century III site could be used for apartments, retails, restaurants and more.
