We hear it all the time: "What's wrong with kids today?' We never did that when we were kids.
Well, in light of several recently imposed chaperone demands—like the ones implemented in Market Square and now at Kennywood—we're more concerned about the parents.
Where are they?
When many of us were growing up and got in trouble, we were scared to death to go home because that's when the real consequences would follow. Many parents today depend on teachers and coaches to do all the heavy lifting.
Discipline, hard work, knowing right from wrong, and integrity—which can be defined as doing the right thing when no one is looking—are values that need to be introduced and taught at home.
It comes down to responsibility and accountability.
If these values aren't required or taught at home, teachers and coaches are performing miracles to instill them.
Raise your kids right and give the other mentors in their lives a fighting chance to mold them into upstanding and productive citizens.
