PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) Some Allegheny County and City of Pittsburgh employees protested today against vaccine mandates, which go into effect next month.
County and city employees have to show proof they're vaccinated against COVID-19 by December 1 and 22, respectively.
Those who aren't vaccinated will lose their jobs.
"I am vaccinated but I don't' think Rich Fitzgerald should fire employees two paychecks before Christmas, especially since a lot of us are in unions, I think this is union-busting."
County employee Brian Englert organized a protest downtown Friday, saying he believes the choice to not get vaccinated shouldn't put someone's job on the line.
The mayor's office told KDKA Radio, "We stand by the vaccine requirement for the health and safety of our staff, their families and the public they serve.
"We anticipated that there would be challenges to the vaccine requirement for county employees, but we still think it's the right thing to do. We hope that all of our employees will see that this effort protects them, their families, their coworkers, and the residents that we serve," said Allegheny County spokesperson Amie Downs.
