Pittsburgh City Council advanced legislation Wednesday that would add bike lanes to a list of 15 places in the city where drivers cannot park their vehicles.
There's already a law on the books in the state that bans vehicle parking in bike lanes, but Councilman Bobby Wilson wants to add that restriction to the city code.
He told News Radio KDKA that people parking in bike lanes in the city has become a problem.
"It's a regular occurrence, there's some offenders in some certain typical areas," said Wilson. "People reach out to the office say 'you know hey, why do we have bike lanes if we're not going to allow cyclists to use them' and I agree with that."
The organization Bike Pittsburgh says some bike lanes are blocked up to 50 percent of the time in the city.
