Pittsburgh is opening its city pools on June 18 with more locations available compared to last year.

Thanks to a strong recruiting drive by CitiParks, 11 pools will be open across the city compared to eight last year.
Director Kathryn Vargas says while they don't have a full staff, strong recruiting, with improved benefits for workers, has attracted more lifeguards.
“This year, we increased the pay to $16 an hour to start. It goes up to $18.50 an hour, depending on experience. We need new guards, and we also need managers.”
Vargas adds they're opening to coincide with Pittsburgh Public Schools ending for the year because a lot of their guards are also students.
