Code Orange Air Quality issued across Pennsylvania due to wildfires in Canada

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Tuesday due to the wildfires in Canada.

The Code Orange impacts Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, and Westmoreland counties.

It also impacts areas across the state, include the southeastern counties, Lehigh Valley-Berks Area, and southcentral counties.

The smoke from the wildfires will likely contribute to daily average concentrations of fine particulate matter on Tuesday. This means there are unhealthy pollution levels for sensitive groups of people, including young children, elderly, and those with respiratory problems like asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis.

Residents are encouraged to reduce fireplace and wood stove use, avoid open burning leaves, trash, and other materials, and avoid using gas-powered lawn and garden equipment.
