Law enforcement reports a record number of Pennsylvania residents are applying for concealed carry gun permits.
Just this past weekend, the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office processed more than 1,100 applications during a stop in Jefferson Hills, likely a record.
The process is simple, to get a license, you fill out an application, pay a $20 cash fee, show ID, and then state police run an instant background check.
Sheriff Kevin Krause joined the Big K Morning Show Monday.
“If they’re legally allowed to, I mean they have that right and we have a duty as a sheriff’s office to provide a license to carry those firearms,” said Krause.
He believes recent mass shootings, like those in Nashville and Louisville, have created a general fear for safety.
And even he has begun carrying a firearm when off duty.
Krause says that gun owners need to take safety very seriously.
“I think separate from the constitution right to be able to bare arm, I would recommend training, “said Krause. “Keep it safe and keep it safe from kids.”
