A Carnegie Mellon University professor that made ‘hostile and threating’ posts online is “currently on voluntary professional leave”.
That according to a post from CMU.
The controversy started after a user on “X” responded to a 2021 post from Dr. Uju Anya celebrating the death of conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
The user said, “weird how you only celebrate the deaths of white people. Why is that?”
Dr. Anya responded with “Die first, white man, then ask yourself why I’m dancing.”
Carnegie Mellon then posted that Dr. Anya is on “voluntary professional leave from the university and is not teaching courses on our campus this academic year.”
The university went on to add, “We are deeply concerned by recent hostile and threatening social media posts by Dr. Anya and are reviewing this matter closely.”
CMU also said Dr. Anya’s posts “are contrary to our community standards and values as well as our commitment to fostering a safe, respectful and welcoming campus community.”
Dr. Anya has made controversial posts in the past, celebrating the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, saying that the attempted assassination of then candidate Donald Trump in 2024 was staged and called the anniversary of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death “Kirkmas.”
According to her website, Dr. Anya is a “professor and researcher in applied linguistics, critical sociolinguistics, and critical discourse studies primarily examining race, gender, sexual, and social class identities in new language learning through the experiences of African American students.”
Her “X” account is currently inactive.
