Rich Fitzgerald is answering his critics who claim he has never attended a Jail Oversight Board meeting, since becoming Allegheny County Executive in 2012.
Advocates have put up posters all over downtown saying that Fitzgerald is "missing", calling him out for not taking actions on what they say are horrible conditions at the county jail.
Here is how Fitzgerald responded to those accusations on the Marty Griffin show on NewsRadio KDKA.
"Well, first of all, I have about 17 or 18 different departments that I'm in charge of with the county manager", he says. "I meet with him all the time, including the jail staff and the oversight committee. I'm on over three dozens boards".
Fitzgerald tells Marty that he's able to stay on top of all these issues by sending an employee in his place whenever he's not able to attend meetings. He also says that he went in to work every day during the pandemic.
