Two Pittsburgh residents involved in a protest at Pitt have been indicted by a federal grand jury.

36-year-old Brian DiPippa and his 40-year-old wife Krytal, are charged with conspiracy and obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder.

The Department of Justice says the DiPippas showed up at a protest outside the O'Hara Student Center on the Pitt campus, where a debate was underway concerning transgenderism.

Brian DiPippa is accused of igniting two homemade smoke bombs near a line of people waiting to attend the debate.

Later, Brian, concealed by his wife, allegedly lit and tossed a large explosive firework into a group of police officers trying to stop protesters from entering the building.

There was a loud explosion and several officers were injured.

If convicted, the DiPippas could be sentenced to at least ten years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.
