An Allegheny County couple injured in the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse have notified the City of Pittsburgh, PennDOT and the Port Authority of Allegheny County they plan to sue.
Attorneys for Velva and Tyrone Perry submitted Notices of Intent to Sue, which is "to inform the agencies of the serious harm that was suffered," according to a release.
The Perrys were driving over the Fern Hollow Bridge on Jan 28. when it collapsed. Their car fell nearly 100 feet.
According to the couple's attorneys, the Perrys were treated for serious back injuries and are now in body braces.
They are calling into question the condition of the bridge at the time of the collapse.
"The collapse was a complete failure of governmental responsibility for public safety and two the Perrys," the attorneys wrote. "Of course, Velva and Tyrone are facing serious medical expenses and a long, painful, and uncertain recovery from both the physical and mental harm they've suffered."
The City of Pittsburgh and Port Authority both said they do not comment on ongoing litigation. A PennDOT spokesperson said they are not aware of any litigation at this time.
