COVID-19 is here to stay. At least according to Dr. Amesh Adalja.
The infectious disease and critical care specialist tells guest host Paul Alexander on NewsRadio KDKA that the new coronavirus will likely cause yearly outbreaks.
"So it's not going to go anyway, it's going to be endemic, you can't eradicate or eliminate a virus that has an animal host and spreads sufficiently between humans, so this is something that is now one of the repertory viruses that we and our ancestors are going to deal with year in and year out," said Dr. Adalja.
Dr. Adlaja says many people are going to get mild illness and it's going to be more like a flu-like illness for many people, but for some it may be very severe.
Experts say that getting vaccinated is the best defense to combat COVID.
