As of noon Tuesday the Allegheny County Health Department has identified 11 cases of Cyclosporiasis. The health department is working closely with state and federal partners to find links in the cases if there are any. The intestinal illness is caused by a parasite. You become infected by ingesting food or drinking water contaminated with the parasite. It is not spread directly person to person. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramping and bloating, nausea and fatigue. Steps for prevention include washing hands with soap and warm water.
