Allegheny County Police Department is providing more details after Wednesday’s officer-involved shooting on the South Side.

Pittsburgh Police were alerted after a seven-shot ShotSpotter.

Officials say the man shot by police, identified as 26-year-old Austyn Cousins encountered a Pittsburgh Police Officer outside a home on the 1900 block of Huron Street.

Detectives say Cousins was near his vehicle. The officer noticed firearms in the trunk of the vehicle, which was open.

Initially complying with the officer’s orders, Cousins “abruptyly moved” toward the trunk.

The officer told cousins to move away. Cousins reached into the trunk and the officer responded shooting him multiple times.

Responding officers applied aid but Cousins later died.

Two rifles were found inside the trunk and several bullet holes were found inside his residence along with 11 more guns.

The status of the officer involved in the shooting will be determined by Pittsburgh Police.

After an investigation, the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Officer will determine if force was justified.

Anyone with any information is asked to call 1-833-ALL-TIPS.
